Team USA Pears set out on an ambitious media tour in February to educate food media, nutritionists and bloggers on the versatility of pears. We recruited Chef Doug Adams, season 12 “Top Chef” finalist and PDX restaurateur, to create a pear-centric menu highlighting different pear varieties at each stage of ripeness.
Harvest secured test kitchen seminars at Hearst Publications (home of Good Housekeeping and Woman’s Day), Martha Stewart Living and Meredith Corporation (home of Family Circle, Rachael Ray Every Day and Parents). One of the highlights came at our first stop, the Good Housekeeping Test Kitchen. After gawking at the incredible view of Central Park from the Hearst Tower, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Chef Doug presented each course while Kathy Stephenson, USA Pears’ Marketing Communications Director, presented on each pear variety and answered questions like “How do I know when a pear is ripe?” The presentation was such a hit that we were invited back the next day to host a Facebook Live event with Woman’s Day.
In addition to the three test kitchen seminars, we delivered Chef Doug’s Pear Bisque and Grilled Pear Salad with Chile Oil, Black Sesame and Togarashi, along with boxes of pears, to 11 other key food media. From Bon Appetit and Saveur to Food Network and People, we covered most of Manhattan!
As if our schedule wasn’t packed enough, USA Pears hosted an influencer dinner at New York City’s hot new spot, Kingsley. Chef Roxanne Spruance created a phenomenal six-course meal starring pears, complete with wine and cocktail pairings for each. The guest list included food bloggers, media dietitians and editors from outlets like Women’s Health, Nation’s Restaurant News, Extra Crispy and more. Thanks to Kingsley’s perfect ambience, the delicious meal and good company, the event received rave reviews from attendees.
